When should heating system maintenance be carried out?
Heating system maintenance is recommended during the summer months – from May to September, before the start of the heating season. Regular annual maintenance extends the system’s service life and reduces the risk of breakdowns in winter.
How long do heating radiators last?
Quality steel or cast iron radiators can last 25-40 years. However, if radiators are visibly corroded, regularly leak or heat unevenly, replacement may be more cost-effective than repair. Our specialists will help assess the situation.

How long does building a new district heating connection take?
A new connection typically takes 2-6 weeks depending on the complexity of the property and the approval process with Rigas Siltums. Project development and approvals may take an additional 2-4 weeks. It is advisable to plan work during the summer season when district heating is switched off.
What is a heat substation and why does it need maintenance?
A heat substation is an equipment complex in the building’s basement or technical room that converts heat energy from the city’s heat network for the building’s internal heating system. Regular maintenance (filter cleaning, pump inspection, automation adjustment) ensures efficient operation and reduces heat energy losses.
Is it possible to disconnect from district heating?
Disconnection from district heating is possible but requires careful planning. In an apartment building, a resolution by the apartment owners’ assembly and approval from Rigas Siltums is required. An alternative heating solution must be developed (e.g. a gas boiler or heat pump). Our specialists will advise on all steps and costs.
How often should heat substation maintenance be carried out?
Heat substation maintenance is recommended at least twice a year – before the start of the heating season (August-September) and during the heating season (January-February). Regular maintenance is also a requirement of many insurance policies and Rigas Siltums contracts.
